Qualifications
Admissions Dato' Foong graduated with B. Econ, LL.B (Hons) and LL.M degrees from the University of Sydney, Australia and was admitted to practise in New South Wales, Australia in 1989 and Malaysia in 1993. Dato' Foong started his practice in 1989 as a solicitor with an international law firm in Sydney, Australia for over 3 years. Prior to setting-up Foong & Partners, Dato' Foong was a solicitor with a prominent Malaysian legal firm in 1993 and a partner there in 1996 for 7 years, where he led the Corporate & Commercial and Foreign Investment practice groups. He advises local and foreign companies and investors on a wide variety of corporate matters with particular emphasis on foreign investments and acquisitions of Malaysian businesses. He has been involved in structuring and executing a number of major mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures in the manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, food and newsprint industries and complex debt restructuring exercises involving Euro convertible Bonds listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange which are issued by Malaysian companies. Dato' Foong has also advised on complex multi-tiered or multi-layered takeovers of publicly listed companies in Malaysia. Recently, he acted for OldTown Berhad in the voluntary take-over offer of OldTown Berhad by Jacobs Douwe Egberts Holdings Asia NL B.V. for an aggregate offer consideration of approximately RM1.314 billion. He has also acted and advised on infrastructure projects, including for a public listed company in negotiating a concession for a highway project. |
